We all know that William is a Prince -- he seems so kind and gentle and loving to his wife Kate Middleton, and he's quite the doting dad. Plus, he has that official Prince, Duke of Cambridge title. But how does he feel about the Queen, the lady who is his Grandmother and thought to have a strange relationship with his wife and great-grandkids? As it turns out, Prince William adores Queen Elizabeth; he admires her love of family and sense of humor and he wrote a book about it!
Okay, it's not a whole book but it is the preface of a new book out next week called Elizabeth II: The Steadfast by Lord Hurd. This book comes just before a major milestone in the Queen's rule. On September 9, Queen E will break the record on having the longest reign in British Monarchy. And next year, the Queen mum will be 90.
In the preface, Prince William wrote:
From a personal point of view, I am privileged to witness the private side of the Queen, as a grandmother and a great-grandmother. The Queen's kindness and sense of humor, her innate sense of calm and perspective, and her love of family and home are all attributes I experience first-hand.
All of us who will inherit the legacy of my grandmother's reign and generation need to do all we can to celebrate and learn from her story. Speaking for myself, I am privileged to have the Queen as a model for a life of service to the public.
I think I speak for my generation when I saw that the example and continuity provided by the Queen is not only very rare among leaders but a great source of pride and reassurance.
Time and again, quietly and modestly, the Queen has shown us all that we can confidently embrace the future without compromising the things that are important.
Now I know she tends to be stoic, but I can guess that Queen E used her handkerchief when reading those words from her grandson. How lovely! How beautiful! Such admiration! All the rumors can't be true. She's the best mom, grandma, and great-grandma ever!
Granted, if Wills wasn't a Royal, the letter would be something like My grandmother is cooler than yours -- she's like a Zen master on yoga and even laughs at Amy Schumer jokes.
We have no way of knowing if Queen E even knows who Amy Schumer is, but if her sense of humor really is good, she'd most definitely laugh at some of her jokes. I mean, this is a woman who was trained to hold her pee as a child. Potty humor is where it's at, always.
Well done, Wills. Grandmas rule. And Queen grandmas rule for a long, long time obviously.
